It all started with Ramesh. A brilliant student from a small village in Gorkha, his family’s pride swelled when he was accepted into a top engineering college in Kathmandu. The air was filled with celebration and hope; this was it, the dream of a brighter future, not just for him, but for everyone back home. With a heart full of excitement, he packed his bags for the big city.

But the initial joy quickly met the harsh reality of the city. The mission? Find a decent room. It sounded simple, but it became a soul-crushing saga. He navigated a maze of unreliable brokers, or dalals, who demanded hefty fees for showing him rooms that looked nothing like their descriptions. He spent days chasing "To-Let" signs on telephone poles, only to find the rooms were already taken. He even had a laughably sad encounter with a landlord who advertised a "fully-furnished" room, which turned out to contain a single, wobbly plastic stool. It was a joke, but it didn't feel funny at the time.

After weeks of struggle, he finally found a place. But his problems weren't over. A leaky pipe in the bathroom, a flickering lightbulb... who to call? His landlord gave him a number for a plumber who promised to come "bholi," a tomorrow that never arrived. He felt isolated and frustrated. The city was full of opportunities, but also full of small, daily struggles that wore him down.

One evening, sitting on his rooftop and looking out at the twinkling lights of the valley, a thought struck him with absolute clarity. "Why is this so hard? Why isn't there one place for all of this? A single, trustworthy platform where you can find a good room, and then find a good person to fix it when it breaks?"

That question was the spark that ignited SajiloMandu.
